Federal Bureau of Investigation Broadens DC Shooting Investigation
This Thursday, the FBI raided multiple properties as it broadened its inquiry into a shooting in the nation's capital that happened on Wednesday, leaving one guardsman dead and another in grave state.
Suspect's Past and Residence Raided
This operation covered a home in the state of Washington linked to the accused, Afghan national Lakanwal, who officials said was a member of a CIA-backed force in Afghanistan before entering the US in the year 2021 under a relocation scheme.
FBI agents seized multiple tech equipment from the property, among them mobile phones, notebook computers, and Apple devices, and questioned his family members, the Bureau's chief Kash Patel stated during a press briefing.
Guard Member Member Beckstrom Dies After Shooting
Later on Thursday, the President announced that Beckstrom, one of the guardsmen injured in Washington DC, had passed away.
Beckstrom, aged 20, was one of two members of the national guard attacked; the other member, Wolfe, twenty-four, is still fighting for his life, according to the President.
Trump Demands Review of Afghan Immigrants
Trump has demanded his government to review every Afghan refugee who arrived in the United States during the previous administration, after investigators identified the accused in the attack as a Afghan national.
DC Suspect Had CIA Connections, Officials Verify
The accused worked with CIA-backed forces during the American conflict in the Afghan war, the agency has stated.
The alleged gunman, revealed to be Lakanwal, twenty-nine, entered the United States in the fall of 2021 under an Operation Allies Welcome that gave certain Afghan nationals who had been employed by the American government immigration documents to the United States.
The probe is ongoing as authorities gather evidence and question witnesses.
