One-time National Football League star Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to confront an attempted murder charge related to a gunfire that occurred in May, as his lawyer entering a not guilty declaration on his behalf.

Jail records in Essex, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was released on Tuesday early for his relocation to Florida. Brown, one of the most popular athletes in the NFL, had waived extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was detained after being taken into custody in the city of Dubai.

Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, mentioned in an communication that he has previously filed a documented not guilty response to the attempted murder charge. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as soon as Wednesday morning for a release session, Eiglarsh said.

According to his detention warrant, Brown is accused of taking a pistol from a safety employee after a star boxing bout in May and shooting two shots at a man he had clashed with before. The reported victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told authorities that one of the bullets grazed his nape.

Eiglarsh said that Brown was simply safeguarding himself from Nantambu.

“The actions he was forced to take were purely in self-protection against the reported individual’s violent actions. Brown was assaulted that time and responded within his rightful entitlement to defend himself,” Eiglarsh stated.

Brown was not promptly arrested because at first police did not recognize Nantambu as a victim. It not until later in May that Nantambu delivered a detailed testimony about the incident to authorities and pointed out Brown as the shooter, the document states.

Based on his online content, Brown had been staying in the city of Dubai for a number of period. In a post after the confrontation, Brown stated he was defending himself because he was “attacked by numerous people who tried to take my jewelry and bring physical injury to me.”

A category two murder attempt allegation in Florida imposes a highest fifteen-year incarceration sentence and up to a $10,000 fine in the case of a conviction.

Brown has encountered several judicial challenges over the period. He before had been alleged of physical attack of a delivery operator, multiple family violence charges, failure to pay family payments and other occurrences.
