The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination unveiled the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. This occurred during a Nintendo-focused broadcast that centered on the forthcoming animated feature.
Following up on the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will send Mario to the distant reaches of the cosmos. In his journey, he meets a new princess and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.
A Space-Faring Quest Inspired by Iconic Releases
Similar to the Wii console classics that act as its source material, Mario will depart from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. During his grand adventure, he will reunite with some well-known personalities, including the Luma, a fan favorite from the first movie.
But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who seemingly commands metallic abilities. Notably, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also contains hints to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Celebrity Voice Actors Reprise Roles and Welcome Newcomers
The movie will feature once again of the primary vocal talent, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
A Significant Period for Mario
The new Mario movie is planned to debut around the time of the four-decade milestone of the original Super Mario Bros. game. Beyond the film, 2026 looks set to be a major period for Mario and his allies.
Nintendo confirmed a set of three fresh titles already confirmed for 2026, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
