A senior officer that leaped to the assistance of a partner that got attacked by a blade-wielder has been awarded the Royal Recognition for Valor.

Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he placed a knife to the neck of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the law enforcement personnel and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist following a road collision in Whalley Range in summer 2023.

Brown attacked with blade the two Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a Taser.

"Policeman knifed," the officer stated over his radio.

Officer-mounted and dashboard camera video made public by the force showed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a hood up, run up to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a knife extended.

He struck the policeman who tripped and dropped to the ground, before Sergeant Ansell intervened and attempted to subdue him to the floor despite being continually attacked with the weapon.

Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and sought a clear shot, concluding the struggle to an conclusion.

Sergeant Ansell stated audibly: "I need help on my neck here, I'm bleeding in the throat."

Sgt Ansell sustained two lacerations to his neck and additional cuts to his arms and body, while Sergeant Foster suffered slash wounds.

The department stated Sgt Foster utilized his palms to stop his fellow officer's bleeding before emergency responders came.

The latest award arrives subsequent to the trio of policemen won organizational Valor Recognitions in October 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the area union branch in spring 2024.

They were also awarded a North West Courage Honor in summer 2024.

"The responses of the entire team in the end rescued themselves and meant no members of the public experienced any injuries."

Brown was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in spring 2024, as stated by officials.
